A new billboard has popped up in the Sydney CBD and it’s not a very good sign at all.
The sign, erected at the entrance of the West Gate Shopping Centre, reads: “Do you think your bathroom is funny?
Maybe it’s time to change your bathroom sign.”
A spokeswoman for the city’s Public Works department said it had contacted the artist and asked him to remove the sign.
“The artist’s art is not a statement of support or criticism but rather an artistic interpretation of the issue,” she said.
“We have always encouraged people to work through their issues and provide support to those who need it most.”
She said the artist would not be taking any further action.
“He is in receipt of the department’s offer to remove his sign and he has not decided whether to comply with that offer,” she told 7.30.
In the past, some people have taken the issue to court over the sign’s presence, with a NSW Supreme Court judge ruling in 2015 that it was offensive.
The billboard was erected on the same spot as the Sydney Airport’s controversial “Jellyfish” sign.
