I’m a big fan of the concept of a bathroom vanity, a bathroom-level aesthetic that makes you feel like you’re a real man.
But the real power of a vanity comes from how you look in it.
The idea is that your vanity mirrors the mirror in your head, and you can make a mirror-like experience even more intimate by creating the most intimate bathroom you can imagine.
But for some people, that can be a chore, and a challenge.
“If you’re going to go and use the bathroom that way, it has to be very private and intimate,” says Jennifer Jones, a designer and creative director for the fashion brand Dior.
“And I don’t want to get up on the toilet or I want to look in my mirror and be like, ‘I can’t believe I’ve just put on that bra, that’s ridiculous.'”
To make the bathroom feel like home, you have to create the perfect home.
“You have to be really intentional about what you’re doing in your bathroom,” Jones says.
“I’ve found that there are two things you can do to make it more intimate.
One is to create a space that is not visible, which is where you can have a personal space where you are,” she says.
This allows you to be as quiet as possible.
And it also makes you think about how you’re using your bathroom.
If you’re thinking about having a private space where nothing is visible, but you’re looking at yourself in the mirror, it can be an effective way to feel more intimate with your bathroom experience.
“So you can create an experience where you’re not really thinking about how to do something,” Jones adds.
You can also take time to think about the things you’re feeling, whether it’s discomfort, anger, jealousy, or sadness.
“Just because you’re experiencing some sort of discomfort doesn’t mean you’re necessarily experiencing that with your own body,” Jones explains.
“There are times where we’re just like, OK, that is a pain, I need to go to the bathroom and I’m not going to feel it, so let’s just go for a long walk,” she adds.
“But there are other times where that’s like a big, scary pain that I need a break from.”
The other key to creating a bathroom that is intimate is to take your time.
“It can be very difficult to find that perfect space in your space to get into your bathroom and do what you want and not be aware of anything happening,” Jones points out.
“That’s the part of being mindful of your bathroom that’s going to make the most difference.”
“I know it’s been a few years since I’ve been here, but I’m always looking for something new to do, and I think it’s very important to take time out of your day to make that space a place that you’re really proud of.”
And for people who find the bathroom as intimate as a movie theater, there are a few ways to get that intimate feeling.
“For some people,” Jones advises, “it might be easier to just get into a space in the bathroom, but for others, I think that can also be a good way to take a break.
It can be as simple as getting into the bathroom alone or with your partner.”
